Your Dog Might Love Your Spouse More

Curious thought

This funny video shows just what happens when we put a dog’s loyalty to the test. They pitted husband against wife, father against son, mother against daughter, and roommate against roommate in this one. Everyone gave their predictions, and it turns out that the dogs picked son over father and husband over wife. So far just pretty expected results.

Your Dog Might_B

We get to the mother-daugher battle, and again, the favored mother wins. The dogs basically just follow mom wherever she goes. Finally, we get to the roommates, and actually, surprisingly, the dogs pick neither one. They just get tired of the boring game and eventually walk off without any regard for their owners.

This little experiment obviously didn’t take anything away from the owners’ relationships with each other though (haha at least that’s what they want us to believe.)

ASPCA Rehab Center: A Safe Haven for Unadoptable Dogs

Some dogs are just so fearful and so untrusting that they’re virtually unadoptable

Having been through various cases of abuse and mistreatment, they are sometimes so scared of humans that they cower in a corner and even lose control of their bowel movements. But at the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center in Madison, New Jersey, they have a safe place to stay, recuperate, and recover. There the qualified, caring professionals work their very hardest to try and bring these sad dogs back to life.

One of the dogs, Robin, was a particularly tough case, but eventually moved forward with one activity – play. She used to just hide whenever a person would come near her, but when toys were introduced to her routine, she quickly brightened up and adapted to her environment. That’s just one example of how organizations like these can change the lives of dogs (and people as well.) It would be a worthy cause to donate to.

Really, No Breed Is Naturally More Aggressive

Still stuck on the thought that some breeds are just born ready to fight?

Maybe it’s time to rethink that common misconception again. New studies have shown that dog breed is just a minor (well, very minor) factor when determining general overall aggressiveness and impulsiveness. What’s more is that a recent survey showed that a dog who tended to show aggression towards one certain type of person (i.e. part of family, stranger, or visitor) didn’t show any at all towards other groups.

Really, No Breed_A

For example, you would think that most likely a dog who snapped at his own family would be aggressive towards other unknown humans, but that’s not the case. That just shows that a dog’s impulsiveness stems from upbringing and teaching. Also, a dog who went through some sort of obedience training was 1 ½ times less likely to attack, but a dog who was punished physically or with harsh methods was 2 times as likely to react towards strangers and 3 times as likely to retaliate against their own masters.

All that further supports the counter-theory that dog behavior really truly reflects upon their upbringing and treatment.

Shelter Pups Need You

Wow, did you get something in your eye as well?

This heartwarming clip shows us the many, many various poignant reasons why we should adopt a shelter puppy. It mainly details the story of an unnamed dog who looks back at his life. He was born with a condition that didn’t allow his legs and limbs to grow properly, mainly due to malnutrition. “Humans came and went,” he said, but none of them really wanted to keep him, probably because of his legs. It all was okay, though, because one day a couple decided to foster him so that he could eventually find his forever home.

But along the way, they “accidentally” fell in love with the adorable, quirky little fellow, and decided to keep him. Now the couple also fosters other dogs to give them a second chance, and the many reasons to adopt a shelter dog became evident. We humans need dogs as much as they need us. We depend on them to help keep our hectic stress levels down, and they are just such good companions.

Saving one dog will not change the world, but certainly for that one dog, the world will change forever. Here, go grab yourself a tissue.

Autistic Boy Finds a New Friend

This powerful and uplifting news video from CNN depicts just how a dog might impact a kid’s life

When a normal couple has their first boy, they are overjoyed. But they soon notice something different about Johnny, their son, because he would rarely interact or talk to other people and would keep to himself, having a hard time expressing his feelings and emotions to others. He couldn’t really relate to other people well. Then, one night, Johnny’s mother sat down to watch a newscast, and on the news was a story of a pitbull who had been mistreated. Doctors said she had a very, very slim chance of survival, but the pitbull made it anyway. Johnny’s mother felt that adopting the pup would be a good idea, but at first her husband was skeptical, since they already had 3 kids total.

That all changed the moment Johnny met Xena the pitbull. They had an instant bond and were always together. Johnny slowly but surely started being social, doing homework, talking to others, and best of all, eating. He would even cut up bananas for the dog. In the end, this really shows how the power of friendship can be so important in even just one person’s life.

Brave Dog Scares Off 3 Bear Intruders

This video went super viral in a matter of days

It shows a brave dog, home alone, who literally walks in on a couple of bear cubs and does not hesitate to scare them off. You would think two bears, even if they are babies, would have just a slight advantage in a two-on-one face off against a small puppy, but not in this case.

Brave Dog Scares Off_A

The courageous dog just barks and jumps and runs them both off the property, and one of the bears even hops the gate one more time in order to complete the narrow escape. I have no idea how the dog did that, but it sure was an amazing feat. It also gives some laughs too, as it’s pretty rare for such a big animal to be scared of a small house pet. Anyways, it was every man (or bear) for himself when the puppy came running towards them.

So much for brotherly love. That dog really was savage though.

What Your Dog Thinks During the Day

Ever wondered what your dog thinks throughout the long day?

Well, its seems that he/she might have more to say than you thought. Maybe it hates huge trucks that block its view of nature, or even enjoys direct eye contact when it poops! Whatever the case, we all know that some free time at the park to run out in the open is always a joy for your pup. It’s probably secretly helping you pick up people from the opposite gender as well, as petting a cute person’s dog is always a good conversation starter.

What Your Dog Thinks

Your dog just wants you to thank him/her later though. Just be grateful you didn’t need to pull out your cheesy pickup lines. Also, if your dog is the outgoing type, it may be communicating with other dogs as well, trying to make new (if not ephemeral) “acquaintances” left and right. But it might just be telling you to stay a little longer, and even get to know the owner better so it can go on a future playdate. These are just some of the things your dog wants to tell you, and if it could talk you would have a lot on your hands.

Pranking Dogs in Public

Yup, that’s right. We’re not just pranking us humans anymore, people

We’re also pranking our lovable best friends. This video shows one of the greatest and funniest prank ideas ever. A woman somehow manages to get underground and use her hand to control a stuffed toy dog. She keeps it unmoving for the longest time, but when a curious or greedy dog walks by to inspect/steal her lunch (a piece of rib in front of the stuffed toy), she immediately snaps her head towards the intruding dog and barks.

Pranking Dogs in Public_A

The freaked-out reactions are priceless, and very few manage to bark back. Most of them just flee in sheer confusion and fright. I think pranking dogs are better than pranking plain-old ordinary people, and isn’t cruel or anything, as some might suggest. What do you think?

Inside the Training of a SEAL’s German Shepherd

Inside the Training of a SEAL’s German Shepherd

The German Shepherd. A dog renowned for its ferocious bite and tenacity when chasing down its target, while also having the ability to sniff out substances with ease. The German Shepherd is used and trained for many special operations, ranging from domestic cases to military endeavors, but perhaps its best known role is with the creme de la creme of the United States Military: The Navy SEALs. In this short documentary, the reporter first goes up into the Colorado Springs to find out just how powerful the dog can be. He puts on protective gear, and starts the experiment.

In a matter of seconds the dog takes him down and he is subject to its relentless attack instinct. He then also moves on to a location in the middle of the desert, where he meets with a former US Marine who now trains dogs for military purposes. They simulate a situation similar to when Osama Bin Laden was captured, and see exactly how the dog would have reacted. Again, they witness the raw power, courage, and intellect of the German Shepherd.
